SUMMARY
Escape from Asylum is a prequel book of the Asylum series, written by Madeleine Roux. Here we read the story from the point of view of Ricky Desmond, a 17-year old.
The story starts with Ricky being taken to the Brookline asylum by his mom and stepdad, because he had injured his stepdad in a fit of rage. Another allegation was that he was caught sleeping with boys (as in sodomy) and should be treated hence. He tries his best to convince his mother to not leave him in the “hellhole”, but even though his mother is not keen on keeping him there, the warden and Ricky’s stepdad repeatedly assures his mother not to worry.
On and on, he meets Keith ‘Kay’, who he befriends and gets to know what is the daily routine of the asylum. She informs him that she is given electric shocks often, which doesn’t really surprise Ricky because he used to get electric shocks in his previous institutions. Later on, he also meets Nurse ‘Jocelyn’ Ash (whom you may have read about in The Warden if you read it already).
The story goes on how Ricky, along with Kay, desperately tries to get out of the asylum with the help of Nurse Ash, and gets ambushed by the warden every time, yet he never gives up. What happens to Ricky and Kay? What happens of Nurse Ash? Is the warden able to restrain them from escaping? To find out all answers, go grab a copy of the book and start reading right away!
REVIEW
Escape from Asylum is a book which legit gives you goosies. It is the total journey of Ricky through the nooks and crannies of the Brookline asylum, and of his various encounters with the warden, Daniel Crawford. Personally, I think it’s an amazing psychological thriller for every book lover, especially the thriller lovers. And I would recommend you read the Asylum series and The Warden book before reading this book to understand many of the references and characters.
