SUMMARY
Harry Potter and the Psychic Serpent is a fanfiction of the Harry Potter series, written by B. L. Purdom. This book starts from Harry’s fifth year in Hogwarts and is a lot more different from what we have read or known of Harry’s world (the magic is still the same).
The book starts with Harry at the Dursley’s, him going for running to build his muscles and not being lazy, and a very reluctant Dudley, who had to go because of his excessive weight. While Harry was working one day, he met a snake who have the Sight, i.e. she can see in the near future (“just a few minutes” future). Harry makes her his pet and names her Sandy, short for Cassandra. Much later, Harry receives a letter from Hermione, who is in Bulgaria with Victor Krum, her boyfriend. He also receives, along with the letter, a picture of Hermione, clad in a bikini, tanned n all. Harry feels a bit different towards Hermione after seeing that picture, but tries to shake off that feeling.
On and on, Hermione and her parents come at the Dursley’s after her being abducted by some death eaters in a market alley in Bulgaria, accompanied by Sirius Black in his animagus form, and Severus Snape, clad in a unique and bizarre muggle costume. Some sexual tension forms between Harry and Hermione while staying there, and Dudley tries his best to impress Hermione.
During their time at Hogwarts, Harry and Hermione secretly starts dating after one night of immense passion (ehm ehm) and they both were trying break up with Cho and Krum respectively by trying to ship them up. Ron is dating Lavender, while something is going on between Draco and Ginny, they being practicing extra potions after class. Well, well, Harry’s fifth year is gonna be a hell lot exciting and unusual, ain’t it?
REVIEW
This fanfic is really good, and I totally loved it when I first read it. It’s the first book in the Psychic Serpent trilogy, the others being The Time of Good Intention and The Triangle Prophecy. This series is not really appropriate for kids under 15, so I wouldn’t recommend it to them, because it is of mature content. Other than that, this book is an amazing fanfic with different themes of love, friendship, father figures, monstrous curses and spells, looking beyond the surface, not to mention full of hormonal kids (which is natural 😉).
All aside, it’s a great fanfic and would highly recommend to everyone (15 and above), especially potterheads, if you want to see a alternate world of Harry Potter.
